March of the Matildas! Naughty by design: The Evolution of Dahl’s Matilda & World Book Day 2026!

Lissy, Rebecca, Kim, Tammy and Heather are back to chat at the start of March 2026... it's another exciting week for the Mums!  Whilst enjoying a lovely bottle of prosecco from local shop Cockburns of Leith (cockburnsofleigh1796) the Mums are chatting about World Book Day on March 5th and the launch of MATILIDA the Musical at the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre. 

Kicking things off, the Mums chat about World Book Day prep.  Are you making costumes?  Buying them?  Find out what the Mums are doing to get ready for the dress up day at school - and maybe pick up some inspiration of your own if you need it (empty pizza boxes anyone?).

Around 2000, he actually wrote to the Roald Dahl estate to ask for the rights to turn Matilda into a musical for a
small local production?  He was turned down initially but didn't give up.  Find out all about how Matilda evolved into this now favourite musical on the podcast!

Join Lissy, Heather, and guest star Kirstie of the Mum Club Edinburgh for a cozy wee chat about motherhood... the changes, the challenges, and the importance of having mum friends!

Friendship Beyond Brunch: The wisdom of Jane Austen & Throwing away perfection

It's been a busy week in Edinburgh... the mums and families are just returned from the February school holiday, with the kids heading back to school!  Lissy, Rebecca, Tammy, Kim and Heather sit down to chat about the school break.  Family trips to Morocco, Tenerife and London are discussed along with what was happening around town.

History, Hype and Heart: A Front Row take on all things Galentine's Day!

Join Kim, Lissy, Rebecca and Heather for another setting the world to rights chat on this second episode in what the Mums are calling "Friendship February".  Firstly the Mums talk about the amazing experience Lissy and Heather had viewing FRIENDS! The Musical Parody at the Edinburgh Playhouse, before giving shout outs to the Mums Club of Edinburgh and the Loch Leven Brewery (where the Mums hope to soon organize a visit) before moving on to the main topic of the evening: Valentine's Day and of course... Galentine's Day!

Are there any rules to Galentine's Day?  The Mums debate about Galentine's Day vs Valentine's Day... one heavy with expectations and performance, the other more of a low-pressure celebration of friendship.  The Mums dive into the history of Galentine's Day to the way it is today..  complete with events, gifts, and brunch deals.  

The Mums dive into the seemingly thousands of novels, TV series, and movies around the topic of female friendship.. and why they seem most of the time to miss or get wrong.  Why is it that writers still often struggle to capture the nuance of how women actually bond?  The Mums chat the "competition as default" fallacy for women, the myth of the "inseparable inner circle" and the "accessory" best friend and sidekick trope.  What are female friendships really like vs. how they are portrayed?  Listen in for a thoughtful discussion on this topic.

Fold in the Friendship: The Bebes, FRIENDS! the Musical Parody Tour & Our Besties

It's the start of Friendship February and Lissy, Anke, Heather, Kim, Tammy and Rebecca are chatting all about Tammy's Alter Ego Themed Birthday Party.  Find all about the costumes worn by the Mums - everything from Kim's stealth costume (a golfer) to Lissy's Claudia Winkleman to Becky from the Block.  Chatting about the amazing Moira Rose turns naturally into a discussion about Catherine O'Hara's untimely passing.. and how much she was absolutely adored as an actress and icon.

Moving on, the Mums chat all about FRIENDS! the Musical Parody Tour packed with some of the best moments from all ten seasons of the TV show which is coming to the iconic Edinburgh Playhouse (for the first stop in the UK tour!) from Thursday February 5th to Saturday 7th!  Lissy and Heather are EXTREMELY excited to meet the cast and see the opening performance on Thursday for this amazing musical rendition of this beloved show.  The Mums have loads to say about Friends and the incredible nostalgia it evokes.  Who can remember where they were when the last episode of Friends came out?  The Mums are raising their hands.  

Moving on, the Mums chat about secrets to long lasting friendships.  How do you go about maintaining long standing friendships?  The Mums chat about what is most important in keeping up with friends over time including accepting friends as they are, brunch dates, and how to keep up with friends who aren't in the same geographical area.

Fighting the January Blues, Happy TV, Beckham Drama, and Robert Burns Night celebrations

How is your January?  Are you suffering from the January Blues?  Join Anke, Lissy, Rebecca, Kim, Heather and Tammy as the Mums catch up on the third week of January which can be a difficult time... post-Christmas, post-NYE, and Quitter's Day for some!

 

After some chat about how the Mums are taking the January blues in stride, Lissy gets things going chatting about her evening out the weekend prior in Edinburgh.  After hitting a great Mexican restaurant for some margaritas, Lissy headed to Kitty O'Sheas and was greatly surprised by what the youth were listening to.  Tune in to find out, but the Mums do not hold back on their thoughts about listening to the "Bare Necessities" at a club.

 

The Mums chat about the January Blues and Quitters Day... the Mums are talking about staying kind to oneself in January when the days are dark and cold... is today's rain tomorrow's whisky?  Having a community or keeping in touch with friends makes it easier to pass the darker days...so does listening to a light hearted podcast!

 

After a quick chat about the explosive Beckham social media drama, the Mums chat about watching happy, sunny TV during this time of the year... moving on to chat about celebrations of Burn's Night plans, fantastic ceilidhs of the past, and what to do with leftover haggis.  Finally the ladies talk about Tammy's fabulous Alter Ego themed birthday at the end of the month... a sure fire way to fight the January blues!

Introducing Liz, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Fabulous British Telly: The Traitors & Amanda and Alan's Greek Job

The ladies are back, the kids are in school, and Anke, Tammy, Heather, Lissy, Rebecca are joined by new Edinburgh Society of Unapologetically Imperfect Mothers guest (and superfan) Liz on the 35^th Episode of the podcast! 

To start off, Lissy gives us a Rocky Horror Picture show at the Edinburgh Playhouse Thatre recap – the History, the costumes, the audience participation.  Starring Jason Donovan of Australia’s Neighbours (he liked our post!) and Jackie Clune of Motherland, a complete review of the Rocky Horror Picture show is up on the Mums’ website.

From Lissy’s review: By the time the cast assembled for encore renditions of ‘Time Warp’ and ‘Sweet Transvestite’, the audience were on their feet; dancing and singing our hearts out, punch-drunk on the joy, nostalgia, and energy only truly incredible theatre can bring.

The Mums discuss future shows coming soon to Edinburgh including Matilda, an evening with Monty Don (of BBC’s Gardeners’ World), and some mysteries coming to the Edinburgh Festival Theater in March (Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts & Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile).

In terms of January activities, Anke is trying to get out more and read, while Tammy watched the end of Stranger Things (no spoilers on this show are in the podcast!), while Tammy and Heather are trying to stick to the fruits and veggies to compliment the work they are putting in at F45.  Do calories consumed with friends not count?

The ladies move on to discuss one of the greatest things to happen to British Television…. It’s the TRAITORS!  Firstly, it’s set in Scotland in a giant castle...what’s not to love?  The characters, the secrets, the setting, and the amazing, fabulous Claudia Winkleman… the ladies are talking Series 4.   The Mums have some major wardrobe envy, some high praise for Claudia’s demeanour, and some ideas about possible future contestants (Lissy, Liz, Rebecca and Kim).  The Edinburgh Society of Unapologetically Imperfect Mothers raves about this show!

Next up on the British Telly: Amanda and Alan's Greek Job starring wonderful Amanda Holden and national treasure Alan Carr.  Sidenote: Lissy has had a chat with Alan Carr!  The Mums are loving this adorable series which takes us to sunny Corfu where we get to know some wonderful people and see some beautiful scenery during cold and grey January.
